Driving out of town, it felt like fall–cloudy, windy and cool. Got to our destination after stopping in Magog. Magog is a cute town on the lake southeast of Montreal. On Sept 2, we rode at Abbaye d’Oka. What a fun place– north and south networks off a busy road, there is primarily downhill on the south and cross country on the north. We got a taste of both and finished at a skills park by a new bike shop housed in an old schoolhouse. They’ve got the idea down–skills park, pump track right off the parking lot.
The trails are heavily used due to the proximity of Montreal, but were in good shape. The old abbey is a beautiful stone building that is now an auberge (inn) and restaurant. After the ride we headed toward Ottawa–miles of flat terrain and corn, corn, corn. On the way, we took a ferry across the Hudson under blue, blue skies.
