The chilly morning with an overcast sky convinced us to visit Mesa Verde National Park before our ride. It’s a beautiful site with many preserved Indian pueblos built into the caves on the sides of the mesas. Settlements there started in 300 AD and continued through 1200 AD–truly amazing. That afternoon we drove to Dolores and biked the Boggy Draw, Maverick and the Italian Canyon-nicely built, flowy trails on BLM land with a little slickrrock thrown in. We found a skeleton and there were nice views of the Dolores River Canyon and the ‘bog’.
